Our vision is to provide clean renewable energy solutions for Puerto Rico.
Immediately following the devastation of Hurricane Maria, our team focused on relief work throughout the island. We participated in the distribution of donated goods such as solar panels, solar lights, batteries, flashlights, generators, food, filters, and water to the people of this beautiful island. This experience showed us firsthand the need for reliable and self-sustainable energy.
I first got back to the island roughly one week after “Maria”. It broke my heart flying over the vacant landscapes that used to host such dense forests and a plethora of vegetation. What once was a lush green island was only gray, with the occasional red accent of a recent clay landslide. Once familiar landscapes were now unrecognizably baron, distorting any normal sense of comfort. I felt lost in a place I had called home for nearly a decade.
Our first instinct was to check on the people closest to us, assuring them that food, water and help were not far behind. I quickly realized that in our modern world, the need for energy and light is just as essential as food and water.
It was days before the first plane came in with our initial supplies. With little or no access to electricity and gasoline, we had to devise a plan to reach the most people as efficiently as possible. Our savior was our solar lights from ThirdWave Volunteers. With them we were able to operate 24 hours a day, reaching some of the hardest hit areas throughout the island. We partnered up with private relief groups, local law enforcement, and the municipalities to create a channel for distribution. I was lucky to have access to these resources.
For five months we participated in the relief work through all 78 municipalities. Nothing has been more rewarding than this humanitarian experience. We moved from distribution, to rebuilding, to sustainability in our unending fight to help the island. Thank you to all the friends, family, and anyone who helped Puerto Rico!
The goal is to help rebuild the island and move forward towards a stronger eco-friendly community. When disaster happens, the strong will survive and adapt for a better, more productive future.
The answer is solar! Puerto Rico is on the cusp of a new era free from reliance on traditional dirty power. We are so excited about the influx of solar throughout the island, and fully support any project working towards a more efficient future.
